2.3.2. Categorization task
The categorization task was carried out by all 48 participants
after the choice or auction task. This experiment was held in a
room next to the wine shop. The same 24 bottles were presented
on a table. In front of each bottle, a post-it with a random
three-digit number was attached. Participants had to examine
the bottles and to indicate on each post-it if the bottle belonged
to the ‘‘high’’, ‘‘average’’ or ‘‘low’’ quality category. Participants
were also asked to provide the main criteria they used to make
their decision. The presentation order of bottles was randomly
established for each participant.
Once the participants had finished the categorization task, they
were asked to explain the criteria they used for creating wine
quality groups. The experimenter induced them to explain the
criteria and they could give an example of high or low quality wine
in order to make the task easier. The interview was recorded by
means of a USB voice recorder. Before recording, participants were
informed and asked to fill out a consent form in which it was indicated
that their data will be used only for scientific purposes.
