Coal is the most abundant energy resource in China, which will continue to be dominant in China's energy scheme in the long future. Therefore, utilizing clean coal technologies becomes a very important strategy for China's sustainable development. Sub-critical coal-fired power generation technology has dominated China's power industry since 1980s. A sub-critical plant typically operates at up to 540 °C and has a thermal efficiency of 30%–39%. To achieve higher efficiency, supercritical (SC) and USC coal-fired technologies have been introduced since the recent years.
