In thispaperweanalysethecapabilitiesandlimitationsofsinglelayerindexmatchingcoatingsforthe
glass/TCOorTCO/absorberinterfacesinthinfilmsolarcells.Opticalmodelsareusedtoevaluatethe
potentialgainincellefficiencieswithhypotheticalidealmatchingmaterialstominimiselossesdueto
reflectionsatinternalinterfaces.Wesuggesttherangeofdesiredopticalpropertiesofsuchmaterials,
whereanetgainincellefficiencycanbeachieved,anddiscussthecommercialbenefitsofsuch
intermediatematchinglayer.Forsomeselectedternaryandquaternarynoveloxidesavailable,the
potentialefficiencygainduetotheinclusionofananti-reflectivematchinglayerinasolarcellstructure
is calculatedandcomparedwiththecaseofidealmatchingmaterials.
