Water use efficiency measures such as
modest crop shifting, smart irrigation scheduling,
advanced irrigation management, and efficient
irrigation technology have the potential of vastly
improving water use efficiency. Switching from
flood irrigation to drip irrigation, for instance,
can increase water use efficiency as much as 40
percent. Even small management changes can
bring a 10 to 15 percent improvement in water
use efficiency. Less water pumped for agricultural
purposes equals energy savings and global
warming pollution reduction.
