Translucent polycrystallinealuminaceramicswerefabricatedbyrapidvacuumsinteringusingcommercial α-Al2O3 as astartingpowderand
MgO asanadditive.Effectofheatingrateonthesinteringbehavior,microstructureandpropertiesoftranslucentaluminawasinvestigated.Itwas
shown thatwithincreasingtheheatingratefrom50to150 1C/min, graingrowthwasinhibitedduetotherestrainedsurfacediffusion,and
densification waspromotedduetotheenhancedvacancydiffusion.Thegrainsizedecreasedfrom14.8 μm to4 μm, andthe flexural strength
increased from352MPato570MPacorrespondingly.Furtherincreaseoftheheatingrateledtotheincreaseofresidualpores,whichwasowing
to theinsufficient rearrangementoftheAl2O3 particles. Thein-linetransmissionwasrelatedtotheporosityandgrainsize
