‘‘semiclassical’’ picture is doubly misleading. On the one
hand it gives the impression that both the x and the y components
of the angular momentum have simultaneously well-defined
values.This is not the case, as jˆ x and jˆ y do not
commute. In addition, this picture hides the fact that the
eigenvalues of jˆ x and jˆ y are also quantized and measurements
of, e.g., jˆ x in an eigenstate u j,mz& give values mx
with mxP$2j,2j11,...,j%. In this paper, we show that corresponding
probabilities p( j)(mx ,mz) can be very easily calculated
recursively.
