On this basis, the occurrence and the suppression of a
peritectic reaction during post-recalescence is determined
by competition between td and s. Clearly, if
DT < DT* = 120 K, s < td, whereas if DT > DT*,
s > td. So, for DT > DT*, all of the melt has already
solidified into the d phase, before peritectic reaction
can occur. The fitted value (DT* = 120 K, Fig. 3) is
slightly lower than the observed value130 K. The difference
can be ascribed to the slight overestimation of
s and does not disagree with the above mechanism
adopted to explain the suppression of the peritectic reaction
for DT > DT*.
