Liu and his group (Liu et al., 2009; Jing et al., 2009, 2010) investigated
the role of microzooplankton and the community composition
of Bacteria and Archaea in the Sea of Okhotsk. They suggest
that phytoplankton growth and microzooplankton grazing are
strongly influenced by the availability of Fe and other nutrients
along the Sakhalin coast, and that physicochemical conditions are
more important than geographical proximity in determining summertime
prokaryotic community compositions in the Sea of
Okhotsk.
