Soils were compacted to the required volume (scale 300 mL) to achieve the original bulk density as was observed in the field.
A combination of treatments (temperature and water content) was randomly assigned to the jars and replicated nine times for a total of 108 jars. Deionized water was added to each jar every 4 d to maintain water content at 4555%, 6575% and 8595% of field water-holding capacity.
