Now, it seems like even that isn't likely. Multiple sources are reporting that the boys are looking to cash in with one final world tour in 2016 and then go their separate ways.
While it would no doubt leave 1D's millions of fans directionless, a split would be in keeping with the usual trajectory of boy bands. The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, New Kids on the Block and others broke up at the height of their fame, usually so their members could capitalize on that fame and pursue a solo career. It certainly worked out alright for Justin Timberlake.
