Genome-wide analysis of cyclophilin members in Arabidopsis and rice revealed this family to have expanded in the latter via alternative splicing events. Similar observations were made when we compared the cases of alternative splicing of two-component system family (TCS) between Arabidopsis and rice (Pareek etal. 2006).Alternative splicing is a molecular mechanism utilized by broad range of eukaryotes to extend the repertoire of normal functions associated with a single gene (Haas 2008). It has been suggested that alternate splicing of many genes in rice is affected by stress conditions, suggesting that manipulation of alternate splicing may bean effective strategyof riceto adapt toabiotic stresses (Zhiguo et al. 2013).
