iodiesel production from CJCO with a high content of
FFA has been investigated. In alkali base catalyzed transesterification process, the presence of high concentration of
FFA reduced the yield of methyl esters of fatty acids significantly. A two-stage transesterification process was selected
to improve the methyl ester yield. The first stage was acid
pretreatment process, which could reduced the FFA level
of CJCO to less than 1%. The second stage, alkali base catalyzed transesterification process gave 90% methyl ester
yield.
