Songkhla zoo is the largest zoo in the South of Thailand. It is the best place to see zoo animals in the area. This zoo has a relatively new collection of animal. It first opened its gates to the public in 1989. It is one of the very few Thai zoos which are members of the Zoological Park Organization and as such sets itself apart from the purely exploitative commercial collections which are so common in the country. Songkhla has committed itself to a genuine conservation role and educational input.
Located on the Songkhla-Chana Road in Tambon Khao Rup Chang, Songkhla Zoo is an open-range zoo established by the aim to preserve and return the wild animals to nature. The hilly area of the zoo is paved as an asphalt ring road where tourist can drive along the way to see various animals grouped separately such as camels, birds, tigers and crocodiles.
