Sequencing Techniques
Based on the current microinstruction, condition flags, and the contents of the instruction
register, a control memory address must be generated for the next microinstruction.
A wide variety of techniques have been used. We can group them
into three general categories, as illustrated in Figures 16.6 to 16.8. These categories
are based on the format of the address information in the microinstruction:
• Two address fields
• Single address field
• Variable format
