2.3 Bleeding
Bleeding is a phenomenon that occurs in the plastic state after concrete has been placed. Bleeding involves the rising up of water to the top surface of the already placed concrete, causing high permeability and high porosity concrete surface with low strength and low abrasive resistance.
2.3.1 Mechanisms
Fresh concrete mixtures contain particles that have different sizes and also different density. When the fresh concrete mixtures contain large amount of water, heavy solid particles tend to settle downward, forcing water, the component with the lowest density when compared to all solids in the concrete, to rise up to the top surface of the concrete.
