This dissertation examines interdisciplinary connections and contexts of the
experiences and identities of 24 contemporary women environmental artists. Although I
am not an environmental artist, I am a woman, an artist, and a feminist living and
working in a time when many of us are deeply concerned about the perilous impact we
are having on our vulnerable planet. I have approached this study utilizing a lens
informed by feminist values and principles. Feminist values challenge social and
historical constructs, focus on gender to include balance and equality, and challenge a
masculine cultural view and misrepresentation of women.
