Examined the relationships between school climate and the quality of student life in middle schools. The sample was composed of teachers and students from 49 randomly selected middle schools. Approximately 50% of the faculty in each school, selected at random, were administered the Organizational Climate Descriptive Questionnaire developed for middle schools. In each school, student data were collected from students using 1 classroom of a heterogeneous group of 8th graders. The students were administered the Quality of School Life Scale. In addition, each principal was interviewed to gather information on the principal and to determine the presence of recommended middle school practices. In general, student attitudes towards certain aspects of their school life were only slightly affected by the openness in teacher–principal and teacher–teacher relationships.
