The subjects in this study were 40 adults (16 men and 24 women) ranged in age from 35 to 77 years, with diagnosed hyperlipidemia recruited from south western connecticut. The trial consisted of an acute and a sustained phase. In the acute phase, participants were randomly assigned to consume one of the two sequence permutations of a single dose of breakfast of three medium hardboiled eggs and a sausage/cheese breakfast sandwich daily for six weeks. In the sustained phase, participants were randomly assigned to one of the two sequence permutations of two medium hardboiled eggs and ½ cup of egg substitute breakfast daily for six weeks.
