at femoral incision sites are rare but potentially
life-threatening (Colwell et al 2004). Incision sites
should therefore be observed, dressings replaced
as necessary and concerns reported.
Skin, especially at the peripheries, should be
observed for perfusion (warmth and colour)
as well as any impending signs of pressure ulcer
development. Vascular disease often causes
problems with peripheral circulation, but specific
post-procedure risk factors include:
-Ischaemia resulting from the procedure and
inflammation.
-Hypotension or lower than normal blood
pressure.
-Hypotension resulting from epidural analgesia.
-Immobility.
