This paper presents the design and construction of a proto-
type thyristor converter based on a Digital Signal Controller.
The converter control system is based on a digital signal controller,
in which are developed real time tasks such as signal sampling, digital filtering,
zero crossings detection and calculation of control actions.
A signal conditioning stage for bidirectional communication between the DSC and converter was implemented using digital potentiometers and current sensors. Furthermore, stability and dynamic behavior of the converter when operated in closed-loop were analyzed by simulation and in the laboratory.
A closed-loop digital control was designed with a PI digital controller,
which showed an excellent performance during the step changes of referenceand disturbances.
The implementation of digital controller based on Digital Signal Controllers paves the way for the development of intelligent thyristor-based power converters.
