A POS (point-of-sale) terminal is the special-purpose computer that the cashier is using. The cashier scans the barcodes of the products. The POS retrieves information about the products in a database in the central computer. The POS then calculates the amount to change the customer. If the customer pays by bank card, EFT (electronic funds transfer) allows the transfer of money from the card holder's bank account to the merchant's account.
