Hence, compared to standards set
by International Standards Organization (ISO), for example, halal standards qualify as
part of ‘global assemblages’, that is, they are products of multiple and emergent determinations
that are not reducible to a single logic (Ong and Collier 2005: 12). One reason for
this is that halal standardization inMalaysia is part of the particular history of the country
with its Islamic revivalism, state regulation and secular sentiments.
