We presented a traction control system design using IMCPID
methodology for an automobile in this paper. As indicated
by the simulation results, it is observed that without applying
the proposed traction control system to the vehicle, significant
slippage on the wheels occurs which may destabilize the
vehicle dynamic and can cause an accident. The designed PI
controller tuned via IMC-PID method for traction control of
the system has resulted in significant reduction of the
maximum slip ratio resulting in retention of traction of the tires
with the road. The performance of the traction control system
on icy road conditions has shown improvement of vehicle
traction significantly, which is generally most difficult to
achieve.
