The glycine betaine content of control (unstressed) plants varied from 85.40 in CoM-0265 to 235.70 μg g−1 fr. wt. in CoM-08011 with a mean value of 139.44 μg g−1 fr. wt. The glycine betaine content increased significantly under stressed conditions. In saline soil, it ranged from 277.00 in CoM-08011 to 891.80 in CoM 0265 with a mean value of 504.97 μg g−1 fr. wt. whereas in sodic soil, it ranged from 1133.00 in CoM-08011 to 4360.50 in CoM-0265 with a mean value of 1,889.92. The highest fold increase of 10.44 was recorded in CoM-0265 and the lowest of 1.17 in CoM-08011 with the mean fold increase of 4.34 under saline soil condition over normal soil condition. In sodic soil, the highest fold increase of 51.06 was observed in CoM-0265 and the lowest of 4.81 in CoM-08011 with the mean fold increase of 16.63. The genotypes CoM-0265, Co-740 and Co-62175 appeared to be promising salt tolerant ones based on the glycine betaine accumulation under stress condition
