The obtained results showed that the adsorption equilibrium data fitted very well to both the Langmuir and Freundlich models. Data of the IR spectrum confirmed the presence
of some functional groups in the biomass of U. lactuca. The
desorption experiments suggested that the regeneration of
the biosorbents was possible for repeated use especially with
regard to Cd(II). Finally, it was concluded that U. lactuca
can be used as an effective, low cost, and environmentally
friendly biosorbent for removal of Cd(II) ions from aqueous
solution.
