The Entrepreneurial Event
At some point conscious decision is made to launch the venture. Ideas, concepts and dreams do not make a reality. They are wishes, as with purchasing a lottery ticket. The entrepreneur, having assembled all the information available, having thought out the ramifications of the venture, commits herself to go. The bursting out, as it were, may follow one of six conditions or situations. There may be a motivational process through which the individual has reached a nadir (or acme, depending on the emotional situation) where there is really no other choice but to begin the undertaking. Or there has been a perceived time threshold reached at which point the individual launches the venture or not. A third situation may arise through displacement whereby some external consideration moves the entrepreneur into action. And finally, there is the occurrence of purechance, a right-place-ritht-time condition. But then without the appropriate environmental factors and social support the event cannot likely succeed. But above all, there’s the need for a vision about the new idea and where it is to go.
