Zika virus (ZIKV) of the Flaviviridae family is an emerging mosquito borne virus originally identified in Uganda in 1947. Outbreaks of the virus have been previously recognized in regions within Asia and Africa, including Malaysia,Thailand, and Vietnam, and as far as Micronesia.
ZIKV infects human skin and over 80% of ZIKV cases are asymptomatic or go unnoticed, while the remaining cases typically exhibit mild fever, rash, and joint pain for a period of 7 days
