Buildingintegratedphotovoltaic(BIPV)systemsarearelevantapplicationofphotovoltaics.Incountries
belongingtotheInternationalEnergyAgencycountries,24%oftotalinstalledPVpowercorrespondstoBIPV
systems.ElectricitylossescausedbyshadowsoverthePVgeneratorhaveasignificant impactonthe
performanceofBIPVsystems,beingthemajorsourceofelectricitylosses.Thispaper presentsamethodology
toestimateelectricityproducedbyBIPVsystemswhichincorporatesamodelforshadinglosses.The
proposed methodologyhasbeenvalidatedonaoneyear studywithrealdatafromtwosimilarPVsystems
placedonthesouthfaçadeofabuildingbelongingtotheTechnicalUniversityofMadrid.Thisstudyhas
coveredallweatherconditions:clear,partiallyovercastandfullyovercastsky.Resultsofthisstudyareshown
at differenttimescales,resultingthattheerrorscommittedbythebestperformingmodelarebelow1%and
3% inannualanddailyelectricityestimation.Theuseofmodelswhichaccountforthereducedperformance
atlowirradiancelevelsalsoimprovestheestimationofgeneratedelectricity.
