1. Introduction
Contaminationofsoilbyheavymetalsisaworldwideenviron-
mentalproblem,especiallyinChina.Coincidentwiththerapid
industrializationandeconomicdevelopmentofChina,significant
quantitiesofheavymetalshavebeenreleasedintothesoilenviron-
ment, particularlyinareasaffectedbyminingandsmeltingactivities.
Miningactivityisoneoftheleadingsourcesofheavymetal
contaminationintheenvironment.Duringtheprocessofmining
andthegrindingandconcentratingofores,dustisemitted,waste-
waterisdischarged,andminetailingsarecreated(Liu etal.,2005;Lei
et al.,2010). Heavymetals,suchasPb,Cd,Cr,Hg,andAs,are
consideredassomeofthemosttoxicelementsintheenvironment.
Thesetoxicelementsinsoilsarenon-biodegradableand,therefore,
areextremelypersistentintheenvironment(Boularbahetal.,2006;
Sharma etal.,2007). Theymayalsobetransportedthroughsoilsto
groundwaterandenterthefoodchainthroughuptakebycrops,such
as rice,wheatorvegetables(Boularbahetal.,2006).
