5. Conclusion
Practising midwifery in this setting is a complex activity, where
different values are at stake. The organisation of this care, with the
best intentions, aims to provide S-ANC, added antenatal care for
women at risk, which presents contradictory barriers for women to
receive person-centred care that is tailored to all of their needs. To
strengthen maternity care for women whose pregnancies are
complicated by diabetes, the midwifery contribution should be
clearly recognised and defined so that women can capitalise on the
different professionals and expert competencies and contributions
in this setting.
