.t has been estimated that there were as many as 8,000 people adrift in the Andaman Sea from early May, and up to 3,000 remaining at sea. Save the Children in Thailand recognized the urgency of the issue to respond, and sent an assessment team to conduct surveys at four shelters in southern Thailand. The team identified needs for strengthening protection services and psycho-social support for children. For the initial response, we distributed supplementary food, while our long-term plan for response will include development of child-friendly spaces, distribution of reading materials, and building caretakers’ capacity to provide child-friendly services.
