An important point to note for this chapter is what is meant by broadcasting and sports broadcasting in particular. The term broadcasting can normally be interpreted to cover a wide spectrum of media and formats. For example, the internet as a medium and the various sports content that can be found on it are examples of sports broadcasting. Likewise, handheld devices such as mobile phones and the ability to access sports content on them is another example. However, in this chapter, sports broadcasting refers principally, although not exclusively, to television broadcasts of sport. Many of the key learning points from the analysis of sports broadcasting on this medium can aid understanding of other forms of sports broadcast media
