Enculturation
Two important terms in the study of communication concerning cultural learning are enculturation and acculturation. The former refers to the acquisition of one’s first or native culture, while the later concerns a second or foreign culture learning experience. This chapter will discuss the former only.
According to Edward T. Hall (1959) in The Silent Language, levels and types of cultural learning are divided into formal, informal, and technical categories.
