The primary management technique consists of prevention of injury. The individual should be placed on the flood (if not already fallen )in an area
Free of obstacles that could cause injury , such as a heater. Clothing around the neck should be loosened. A soft article ,such as a handkerchief ,may be placed between the teeth to keep from biting the tongue .some epileptics carry a mouthpiece for this
purpose . Unless this precaution is taken very quickly, however, it may not be possible . Once the seizure has begun ,the teeth are often drenched and extreme force should not be used to attempt to insert a protective device in the mont. The perception that something must be done to keep the seizure victim from
swallowing his /her tongue is a myth and physical impossibility . Other student should be moved as discreetly as possible from the area to afford as much privacy as the situation permits. Since bowel and /or bladder incontinency often a company grand mal seizures this can be an added source of embarrassment if other students are present.
