Our choice to use a single, common data model is not as flexible as allowing users to define their own custom data models, but has a number of benefits when considering the overall goal of our work to support non-technical end-users. By using Schema.org as a common model in conjunction with the extraction wizard, no data modelling is required and users can start extracting data immediately with little or no training. Also, users do not need to worry about designing any custom templates since the system already provides interfaces that are optimized for each of the predefined data types. As users become more familiar with the system they can gradually progress to the level of customising the mappings which will allow them to extract more data and refine the ways in which it is stored in their personal database.
