Because of the different dross particle sizes, an
ASTM standard sieve was first employed to evaluate
the distribution of particle sizes in the dross sample.
After determining the experimental particle sizes,
equal masses of aluminum dross were added to
varying ratios of ferrous chloride. The amount of gas, specifically ammonia, produced in the closed experiment
systems with similar levels of water saturation
and reaction times was measured to determine the
lowest ratio of ferrous chloride that added to the dross
sample for yielding the least amount of ammonia. To
enhance waste burial, the water content of the reacted
product should be limited to within 30% w/w.
