Antenna Design
The proposed antenna is based on the idea of incorporating slot in the ground
plane. This causes meandering of the surface current on the radiating patch and
result in an increase of the length of the equivalent surface current path as shown
in Fig. (1). In additions, by implementing a thick substrate with high permittivity,
both bandwidth enhancement and size miniaturization of the antenna element can
be obtained. Rogers RT/Duroid 6010 microwave substrate with dielectric constant
εr=10.5, thickness h=25mil and tangent-loss tgloss=0.0023 is used. Fig. (2) shows
the complete schematic with full optimized dimensions in cm. The size of the
ground plane is 7cm x 11cm with a slot size of 1.9cm x 6.1cm, while the size of
the T-shaped patch is 0.8cm x 4.2cm. The planar feeding line is suitable for
different MMIC applications such as active antennas, and is optimized to 0.2cm
width.
