12. A few minutes later, Dad caught a trout that was about the same size as the one Uncle Greg had caught. While his dad watched his uncle pull in another big trout, Zachary quietly reeled in his line and immersed the plastic fish into the jar again. Maybe the dip washed off in the water, he thought.
13. An hour later, Zachary finally felt a fish nibbling on his line. He managed to reel the fish in without losing it, but it was so small that he had to let it go. He sighed as he watched the fish swim into deeper water.
14. By 10:30 A.M., the sun was reflecting off the river into their eyes, and the fish apparently had finished eating breakfast. No one was getting a bite, not even Dad and Uncle Greg.
15. "Let's head for home," his dad suggested. "I think we've caught all the fish that we're going to catch today."
16. Uncle Greg held up his hand. "Wait a minute," he said with a sly grin plastered on his face. "Zachary, maybe if you dip your bait into that smelly stuff one more time, you'll catch a whopper."
17. Zachary noticed that his dad and uncle were grinning from ear. He could feel his face turning red. They knew that Zachary had been using the special bait dip all along! His chuckled and gave him a hug. "We've tried your trick long ago, son, and we discovered that it doesn't help much."
18. Zachary sighed. "The ads said it was a sure thing," he said defensively
19. "There aren't any sure things in life, son," Dad said empathetically. "We need to have patience and perseverance to achieve our goals in life--even if the goal is just a trout at end of a fishing line!"
