The formation of MN can be due to the action of DNA damaging agents or spindle poisons. On the
other hand, comet assay detects DNA damage at individual cell
level. It is reported that agents like benzo[a]pyrene induce MN
but not DNA strand breaks. Therefore, MN
test and comet assay do complement each other in genotoxoxicity
testing. The findings of the comet assay in the present study confirm the DNA damaging nature of arsenic.
