Prevention of ARF
Primary prevention of ARF,in the absence of a vaccinc depends on prevention, early identification and rapid treatment of GAS pharyngitis. Identified modifiable risk factors for ARF are poverty, overcrowding, malnutrition and maternal education leval and employment risk factors associated with the spread of GAS are shown infigure 1.
In recent years, community-based, nurse-led programmes for screening and treatment of at-risk populations have demonstrated success at lowering rate of GAS infaction and increasing treatment. It is also important to raise community awareness of the serious consequences of untreated GAS pharyngitis
