rockeries and stone figures. on the terraces outside the gallery are found 26 rockeries. were made up from stones moved from the gardens in the grand palace. some rockeries are adorned with stone figures while others apparently had trees, shrubs or herbal plants as decorations, but these have mostly perished.
two rockeries are of special interest. the one in front of the great stupas has a side Siva lingum of unknown origin while the rockery at the entrance into the south side of the gallery has the 'rishi' figures in postures of self massage. these rishi figures were set up in the reigns of Rama 1 and Rama 3 to illustrate the texts in the small pavilions. there used to be as many as 82 of these rishi figures but now noly twenty or so of them still remain in this temple.
