Work- related cul tural val ues were ex amined for a sam ple of nearly four
thousand man agers, pro fessionals, and busi ness stu dents across three culturally
dis tinct na tions - the USA, Vene zuela, and the Peo ple’s Re public of
China. Dorf man and How ell’s (1988) re vision of Hofste de’s (1980) workrelated
cul ture scales were used to ex amine cross- national dif ferences in: Individualism
(ver sus col lectivism); mas culinity (ver sus femi ninity); un certainty
avoid ance; power dis tance, and pa ternalism. Mul tiple analy ses of
variance re vealed sig nificant dif ferences in value struc tures across the three
nations. Im plications for cur rent the ory, di rections for fu ture re search and
practical ap plications were dis cussed.
