Eradication efforts are most effective during
the establishment phase, as pest populations are likely
to be low enough to find and remove all or most
individuals. Frequently, eradication efforts take place
not only after the initial identification of a pest within a
new region, but also within certain areas of a region
hoping to maintain a pest free area. Eradication
targeted at an established population that exists in
scattered areas within a region may be successful if the
main pest population is far removed geographically
from the location of eradication.
