Mean densities of burrows differed among the treatments The transplanted treatment which retained
its hardness (MRHT) had fewer burrows than any other treatment, which did not
significantly differ (SNK tests, P.0.05). Therefore, increased hardness of substratum reduced the abundance of crab burrows and changing the amount of root-material in the
sediment or changing the type of mud did not influence the burrowing by crabs.
