Overall, UCD as a design strategy for pedestrian
navigation systems worked well. Nevertheless, there are
some drawbacks that should be taken into account in
future related research. For instance, the difficulty to
establish a test population with diverse demographic
characteristics curved the findings around a more specific
type of user. Or, selecting a particular city for
executing the usability experiments somehow tied the
context of use to specific aspects of that city.
Furthermore, UCD does not yet have strict guidelines
for what research methods to use with regard to the
context of research. Thus, depending on the design goals
and resources, a careful methodological planning should
always account for a balance between the ideal outcomes
and the costs and efforts that can be afforded.
