The amount of silver based on the dry weight of the cotton fabric was measured using ICP−MS. Panels A and B of Figure 5 show the percentages of silver remaining in cotton after incremental simulated home launderings in water and a detergent solution, respectively. These data are compared to the results reported in the literature, which had been obtained from commercial and laboratory-prepared textile products treated with silver nanoparticles. The washing procedures employed in the literature were varied. For comparison, the number of washings, whose procedure was similar to AATCC 61-2007, was converted to the number of simulated home launderings.
