Charles Dickens was Born in Landport, Hampshire, England. He left school to work in a factory when his father was incarcerated in a debtors' prison. His writings inspired others, in particular journalists and political figures, to address such problems of class oppression. Dickens's literary success began with the 1836 serial publication of The Pickwick Papers. Within a few years he had become an international literary celebrity, famous for his humour, satire, and keen observation of character and society. He is the greatest novelist of the Victorian era.With new contacts in the press he was able to publish a series of sketches under the pseudonym 'Boz'. In April 1836, he married Catherine Hogarth and had 10 children. In 1858 he divorced from his wife. He died of a stroke in 1870,when he was 58years old.
