the first injection pulse would push the band another 23.8 cm approx. (ALV= 59.4 cm/s; injection period: 0.4 s), with the front end reaching a distance of about 34 cm; after the second accumulation step, the band should reach a distance within the loop of about 44 cm, and then be entirely released from the loop with the second injection pulse. The experimental result derived from using the longer loop is illustrated in Fig. 1b. The shape improvement at the peak base is evident, inasmuch that there is no peak shoulder (As = 1 for the third peak). The second modulated peak was characterized by a base width (6) of ca. 560 ms. Summing the width of the left-hand peak shoulder, illustrated in Fig. 1a, the base width would have reached a value of 790 ms.
