The 3 most effective antagonistic bacteria showing consistent
growth inhibition of fungal and oomycete pathogens in the in
vitro tests were selected for further characterization based on
phenotypic characteristics, biochemical tests, and sequence analysis
of 16S–23S rDNA gene. Colony morphology of the selected
bacteria was observed on LB medium. The growth of these bacteria
was observed at 4 and 41 °C, at pH 7 and 9, and at 5% and 7%
NaCl concentrations on LB medium. The compatibility among the
3 selected bacterial isolates was tested by streaking the Bacillus
isolates on one side and the Pseudomonas isolates perpendicularly
to the test bacterium on a Petri dish containing LB medium. The
growth of the bacteria was observed 2–3 days after incubation at
room temperature (24 ± 2 °C).
