5) Method used for enzyme recovery
① Ensilage
1. Silage methods have been used as an effective way to prepare raw materials for enzyme recovery
2. Major drawback of the large-scale recovery of enzymes from fish waste is the geographical
diversity of offal source
3. The silage product showed relatively constant total activity of acid proteases for salmon and cod,
and a significant drop in the activity was observed with mackerel
4. Alkaline protease from salmon was successful due to the stability of enzyme at acidic condition
5. A large-scale process for production of cod pepsin concentrate
② Membrane technology
1. Ultrafiltration is suitable for the separation of sensitive biological substances such as enzymes
2. Ultrafiltration has three distinctive characteristics from the conventional filtration process
- Crossflow system,
- Membrane materials and their nominal molecular weight cutoff (MWCO)
- Membrane geometry in the actual equipment
3. Problem in many ultrafiltration processes is fouling or the buildup of the layer on the membrane
surface
